Beaufort, NC (My Sportsbook) -
Washington Wizards guard Jerry Stackhouse avoided a misdemeanor assault charge Thursday by apologizing to his alleged victim.
Less than a month after the former All-Star was arrested and accused of grabbing a woman at a house he was renting near the North Carolina coast, Stackhouse offered an apology for the alleged incident and had the charge against him dropped.
On July 13th, Stackhouse was told by a female employee of the property that he and his guests had to vacate the premises that afternoon, but he apparently thought he had rented the property until Monday.
According to Atlantic Beach Police Chief Scott Kilpatrick, Stackhouse attempted to snatch the lease from the woman, but grabbed her instead. The woman apparently felt threatened and went to the magistrate's office to take out a warrant.
Stackhouse, who agreed with the Wizards in June on a two-year contract extension worth about $18 million, averaged 21.5 points in 70 games last season, his first with the club.
Originally selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round (third pick overall) of the 1995 NBA Draft, Stackhouse was dealt in December 1997 by the 76ers along with Eric Montross to the Detroit Pistons for Theo Ratliff, Aaron McKie and future considerations.
In September of 2002, the Pistons traded Stackhouse along with Brian Cardinal and Ratko Varda to Washington for Richard Hamilton, Hubert Davis and Bobby Simmons.
The North Carolina Product has played in 582 games during his career and has averaged 21.3 points, 4.1 assists and 3.7 rebounds.
