Portland, OR (My Sportsbook) - Portland Trail Blazers president and general manager Bob Whitsitt announced his resignation from the team on Wednesday. Whitsitt, who will remain with the Blazers until June 30, resigned just days after Portland was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs for the third straight season. "After 25 years in the NBA, I am very grateful for all the experiences I've had including the last nine years with the Blazers," Whitsitt said. "I've always loved basketball and working with the league, and now I'm really looking forward to the opportunities and challenges that will come with devoting myself to the [Seattle] Seahawks full-time." The 46-year-old is the president of the Seahawks -- a position he has held since 1997. Whitsitt was an intern for the Indiana Pacers and was later promoted to assistant general manager in 1981. In 1982 he joined the Kansas City Kings as vice president of marketing. He eventually moved with the team to Sacramento. He then joined the Seattle SuperSonics as president in 1986 at the age of 30, becoming the youngest president in the NBA. He worked with the Sonics for eight years and was NBA Executive of the Year in 1994. That year, he joined the Blazers' organization. "We mutually agreed this was the best thing for the team and the community," Paul G. Allen, owner of the Blazers, said. "During Bob's tenure we made the playoffs every year and averaged 50 wins each season. As we move forward, we are looking for new leadership that will be based in Portland, which we believe is important to the community and will be key to improving our relationship with the fans." The Portland franchise is now looking for both a new general manager and a new president.
