Englewood, CO (My Sportsbook) - The
Denver Broncos have come to terms with quarterback Jay Cutler, their first-round draft pick this year.
The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News both report Cutler agreed to a six- year deal worth about $48 million.
Cutler, chosen 11th overall, played collegiately at Vanderbilt and was an All- SEC first-team member in 2005, as he passed for more than 3,000 yards and for 21 touchdowns after connecting on nearly 60 percent of his attempts. Cutler did record nine interceptions, but those came from more than 460 pass attempts.
The school record-holder of total offense (9,953 yards), passing offense (8,697 yards), touchdown passes (59), completions (710), and pass attempts (1,242), Cutler produced 12 touchdowns against only two interceptions during the final three games of the 2005 regular season.
The Broncos also announced a contract for veteran Micah Knorr, who will likely take the place of Todd Sauerbrun at punter for at least the first four games of the season. Sauerbrun tested positive for the supplement ephedra and lost his appeal to reduce his four-game suspension.
Knorr, who punted for Denver from 2002-04, has appeared in 73 games over five seasons, including two with Denver. He has averaged 41.4 yards per kick, including 82 balls downed inside the 20-yard line.
The Broncos also signed tight end Tony Scheffler, a second-round selection, as well as fourth-round pick Domenik Hixon, a wide receiver. Denver also inked guard Chris Kuper, a fifth-round pick.
