Golden State Warriors try to halt a 15-game series losing streak to
Dallas Mavericks on Friday when the teams square off in Oakland.
The Warriors haven't defeated the Mavericks since April 10, 1999. Golden State has also dropped seven straight home contests to Dallas, with the last victory coming on February 19, 1999. This is the third of four meetings between the teams this year.
The Mavericks still hold the best record in the NBA, but their cushion in the Midwest Division has dwindled to just 2 1/2 games over the San Antonio Spurs.
The Mavs have dropped back-to-back games on the heels of a four-game winning streak. Dallas is coming off a 107-100 setback to the Seattle SuperSonics on Thursday.
Dirk Nowitzki paced Dallas with 27 points and 12 rebounds in the loss, and Nick Van Exel totaled 26 points for the Mavericks.
Steve Nash scored 18 points and Michael Finley added 10 for Dallas, which lost despite shooting 49 percent from the floor. However, the Mavs were outrebounded by Seattle, 41-32.
Dallas has won four of its last six road games and is 21-10 away from home this season. The Mavericks are 25-12 against the Western Conference.
The Warriors snapped a three-game losing streak on Tuesday by coming through with a crucial 113-98 home victory over the Phoenix Suns. Antawn Jamison scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to power the Warriors.
Gilbert Arenas chipped in 22 points and five assists for Golden State, which won for the seventh time in its past 10 games. Adonal Foyle collected 16 points and a career-high 20 rebounds for the Warriors, while teammate Troy Murphy added 13 points and 12 boards.
Jason Richardson ended with 13 points and six assists, while Earl Boykins had 10 points in the win.
Golden State, which is 10th in the Western Conference, currently trails the Suns by three games for the eighth and final playoff spot.
The Warriors have won five straight home games and are 20-12 in their building this season. Golden State is 15-24 against Western Conference foes.
