Portland, OR (My Sportsbook) - The Portland Trail Blazers try for their third straight win when they welcome the
Toronto Raptors to the Rose Garden.
It has been an awful season for the Raptors, who have lost three of their last four games entering tonight's contest. Toronto is coming off a 95-87 setback to the Denver Nuggets. Vince Carter scored 21 points and Jelani McCoy and Antonio Davis added 12 points apiece to the losing effort.
"Our defense was just horrendous," Toronto coach Lenny Wilkens said. "We didn't help or rotate the way we are capable of. We didn't talk on defense. When you get off to a bad start like that, then it's an uphill climb and you take quick shots, trying to make it all up at once. We're not that good.
"I get very angry after a game like this. We have been playing hard, and to have a game like that is disappointing."
The Raptors have dropped six of their last nine road games and have an 8-22 mark away from Air Canada Centre this season. Toronto is 6-17 against Western Conference foes.
Portland is currently the fourth seed in the Western Conference, one-half game ahead of the fifth-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves and 3 1/2 games behind the third-seeded San Antonio Spurs.
The Trail Blazers are coming off a 92-77 win over the Seattle SuperSonics. Rasheed Wallace scored 23 points and Derek Anderson added 18. Zach Randolph added 17 points to the victory. Scottie Pippen scored 10 points and grabbed 13 boards.
"Scottie's 6-foot-8, so he can cover a lot of ground," Blazers coach Maurice Cheeks said. "His wingspan helps us disrupt guys going up the floor and he can also disrupt guys trying to post the ball."
Portland is 21-10 at home and has a 19-7 mark against Eastern Conference foes. The Trail Blazers have won seven of their last nine home games.
Portland won the first meeting of the season 104-91 at Air Canada Centre. The Trail Blazers have won two straight and seven of the last nine meetings between the teams.
The Trail Blazers lead the all-time series 9-4.
