Portland, OR (My Sportsbook) - The Portland Trail Blazers try to keep pace in an extremely competitive Pacific Division when they welcome the
Cleveland Cavaliers to the Rose Garden on Monday night.
Cleveland snapped a three-game slide with an 87-79 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics its last time out. Ricky Davis led the way with 22 points, while Zydrunas Ilgauskas added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Jumaine Jones finished with 16 points and 10 boards in the losing effort.
A victory is nice, but the Cavs have still lost 10 of their last 13 games.
"It's a start," said Davis, who made his first six shots of the game. "We've got a long ways to go, but we'll take any win at this point."
The victory improved the Cavs' record to 5-13 on the road and 4-10 against teams from the Western Conference.
Portland is just one of four red-hot teams in the Pacific Division. Sacramento has led the division from the beginning of the season, while the Suns' surging play has them four games back of the top spot and 1 1/2 games ahead of Portland. The Lakers started slowly, but have won seven of their last 10 and seem prepared to thrust themselves right back into the thick of things.
The Trail Blazers are coming off an 82-81 loss to the Denver Nuggets. Derek Anderson led the way with 17 points while Bonzi Wells added 15. Dale Davis finished with 14 rebounds for Portland.
"They are one of those teams that has nothing to lose," said Wells, who scored all his points in the first half. "They are pretty much out of the playoffs before the season starts, so they can come out here and work on things for next year."
Portland has won 12 of its last 14 games despite the setback.
The Trail Blazers are 10-5 at home and 8-4 against Eastern Conference foes.
This is the first meeting of the season between the teams, who will meet again on February 2 at Gund Arena.
