Lost Super Bowl ring to be returned after 40 years NFL Football 09/16/2011

HONOLULU (AP) - A Super Bowl ring lost four decades ago off Waikiki will soon be returned to former New York Jets center John Schmitt.

KGMB-TV in Honolulu (http://bit.ly/qJVZih ) reports that a Hawaii family wants to return the ring to Schmitt, who earned the ring when the Jets upset the Baltimore Colts in the 1969 Super Bowl.

Schmitt says it's a miracle that it's been found.

The ring slipped off Schmitt's finger in 1971 while he was taking surf lessons.

A Waikiki lifeguard found the ring decades

ed a career game from its own quarterback, as Chad Henne threw for over 400 yards in a losing cause. In all, the two clubs combined for an NFL- record 933 passing yards, which topped the 927 yards totaled by Miami's Dan Marino and Ken O'Brien of the New York Jets back on Sept. 21, 1986. "Not the defensive performance that we were hoping for," Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said. "[The Patriots] had almost 700 yards of offense. That's an understatement." One thing working in the Dolphins' favor is that the Texan

between a pair of early unbeatens led by bright young head coaches if the Cowboys had held up their end. Instead, Dallas will be coming in with a heightened sense of urgency after squandering a 14-point lead in a potentially-costly 27-24 loss to the New York Jets this past Sunday. The Jets rallied for 17 unanswered points over the final 12 minutes, with the Cowboys aiding the comeback by committing two critical turnovers and having a punt blocked that was returned for a game-tying touchdown. Last week, a man was arrested for using an illegal stun gun at Sunday night's Dallas Cowboys-New York Jets game.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Friday the ``enhanced security procedures'' are not a result of any specific threat, but the league is ``always refining and improving'' security.

He says the checks, which began before last week's season-

(MySportsbook) - One quarterback got a clean bill of health. The other may be in for a headache. Third-year New York Jets signal-caller Mark Sanchez showed enough of a recovery from a bruising 2011 season debut to participate fully in practice this week as his team prepares for a Week 2 home matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday at the newly-christened MetLife Stadium. Sanchez was sacked four times and hit 12 times overall in last Sunday's dramatic 27-24 defeat of the Dallas Cowboys on the emotion-

Florham Park, NJ (MySportsbook) - New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Jacksonville. Holmes is suffering from knee and quad injuries, but is expected to play. He caught six passes for 70 yards in the Jets' opening-week victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Linebacker David Harris (toe) and defensive back Eric Smith (ankle) are also listed as questionable. Wide receiver Logan Payne (wrist) and offensive lineman Robert Turner (ankle) will miss the game.
Chiefs sign TE Anthony Becht, waive O'Connell NFL Football 09/16/2011

Jets' Tomlinson remakes himself as 3rd-down threat NFL Football 09/15/2011

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) - LaDainian Tomlinson realizes he's no longer considered the dominant, game-changing rusher he once was or even an every-down running back.

In his second year with the New York Jets, Tomlinson is remaking himself as a third-down threat out of the backfield. It's a role he insists he's fine with, although he admits as a competitor he still likes to have the football in his hands whenever he can.

Tomlinson rushed for just 16 yards on five carries in the opener against Dallas on S

Jets WR Holmes limited in practice NFL Football 09/15/2011
Florham Park, NJ (MySportsbook) - New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes was limited in practice Thursday because of knee and quad injuries, but was not expected to miss Sunday's game against Jacksonville. Rex Ryan said he wasn't concerned with any of the new additions to the team's injury report, including Holmes and safety Eric Smith, who was limited because of an ankle injury.
