| Cleveland, OH (MySportsbook) - Cleveland Browns cornerback Gary Baxter tore the patellar tendon in his left knee on Sunday versus the Denver Broncos and will miss the rest of the season. In the second quarter of Sunday's 17-7 loss, Baxter tried to break up a deep pass to Javon Walker but he landed awkwardly and grabbed his left knee. Head coach Romeo Crennel believes that Baxter also tore his right patellar tendon and will miss a full year. Baxter will have surgery on Tuesday. This was Baxter's first game |

DENVER (AP) -Denver Broncos left tackle Matt Lepsis is out for the season after tearing a ligament in his right knee in the first half of the Broncos' 17-7 win over Cleveland. ``Anytime you lose one of your top players for the season, it's always a pretty good punch,'' coach Mike Shanahan said Monday after an MRI revealed the tear in Lepsis' anterior cruciate ligament. ``It's a knockout punch almost.'' Lepsis stayed in for one play after the injury and then came out. The Broncos inserted Erik Pears i |

CLEVELAND (AP) -Browns cornerback Gary Baxter injured his left knee late in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos while trying to break up a pass deep in Cleveland territory. Baxter, who missed 11 games last season with a torn chest muscle and Cleveland's previous three this year with a similar injury, was backpedalling when he appeared to hurt himself while planting to jump. Baxter immediately grabbed his knee and Broncos wide receiver Javon Walker signaled to Cleveland's side |

| Broncos have historic defense but horrific offense |

DENVER (AP) -These should be happy times at Dove Valley. The Denver Broncos' defense is stingier through five weeks than any other NFL team since 1934. They've allowed just 19 points over the last month, the best stretch in franchise history. Their opponents haven't sniffed a double-digit score since the opener, when St. Louis settled for six field goals. So, what's the problem? Why is there a palpable air of concern in the locker room? Why is Mike Shanahan getting grilled as though his team were 1 |

BEREA, Ohio (AP) -Reuben Droughns is planning to run into a few old friends this weekend. He's not expecting any hugs or kisses during the reunion. The Denver Broncos are going to treat him much more rudely. ``It's going to be fun,'' Cleveland's running back said of the upcoming matchup against his former team. ``I'm sure they're going to try to tee off on me, just like I'm going to try to tee off on them.'' Tee time for Droughns and the Browns (1-4) is Sunday as they return from their bye week to ta |

| (MySportsbook) - Somehow you get the feeling that the Denver Broncos defense isn't really this good, and their offense isn't this bad. Mike Shanahan's club earned a 13-3 victory over the visiting Oakland Raiders on Sunday night to improve to 4-1 this season. It was another example of the defense leading the way. The club went another game without giving up a touchdown, meaning they have allowed just one TD through the first five games of the season. The last team to go this far into a year and yield less t |

DENVER (AP) -Jake Plummer trusts that his coach will figure out a way to get the Denver Broncos' sluggish offense going. ``We will find an answer,'' Plummer said. ``Coach Shanahan is one of the smartest offensive minds in the game.'' And Mike Shanahan said he has similar faith in his quarterback, even though it might not appear that way to the average fan. When the Broncos jumped up 13-0 against the winless Oakland Raiders on Sunday night, Shanahan appeared to shift once again to ``safe mode'' on off |
