Like most of the other contenders in the NFC, the Carolina Panthers are consistently inconsistent. So it's not surprising that on the final weekend of the season one of the preseason favorites to represent the conference in the Super Bowl needs a win in the Georgia Dome just to ensure a playoff spot. It won't be easy: they are just 1-9 there in their 11-season existence. Carolina had a chance to lock things up last week by beating Dallas at home. It didn't, thanks to a roughing the kicker penalty on a l |

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - John Fox leaned back in a folding chair, chatting with two Carolina Panthers. Across the locker room, a circle of players vehemently argued who would win a pickup basketball game. If the Panthers are feeling any pressure heading into their regular season finale, they sure aren't showing it. Three losses in their past six games has backed Carolina (10-5) into a must-win situation at Atlanta on Sunday to guarantee a spot in the playoffs. Fox has done his best this week to keep things |

| Falcons are now 8-7 and out of playoff contention. ``This is the first offseason that I've had to spend at home when I started all the games,'' Vick said Wednesday. ``So it's a little different.'' Atlanta can accomplish two goals Sunday when the Carolina Panthers (10-5) visit the Georgia Dome, but neither offers Vick much satisfaction. A victory would guarantee the Falcons consecutive winning seasons for the first time in their 40-year history. It also might knock Carolina out of the playoffs. ``I guess it |

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Ricky Proehl isn't ready to decide if this 16th season in the NFL will be his last. The only thing on his mind is helping the Carolina Panthers make the playoffs. ``Right now, I'm just worried about Atlanta and trying to get a win,'' he said. Should Carolina (10-5) lose at Atlanta (8-7) on Sunday, it could very well mark the final game of Proehl's career. He wanted to retire following last season, but after a lengthy chat with coach John Fox decided to return. To honor him last we |

However, a whirlwind chain of events in each of the games involving the division's two top dogs has once again anointed Tampa Bay as the favorite to seize the throne, one week after the club gave its control away with a disheartening 28-0 beatdown at the hands of |

| (MySportsbook) - Heading into the final two weeks of the regular season, the Carolina Panthers appeared to be firmly in control of the NFC's South Division after taking a one-game lead over Tampa Bay into the Christmas weekend. However, it took as little as one minute and eight seconds to drastically turn the Panthers' chances of winning the division from good to remote, as well as the team's playoff fortunes from definite to unsure. That above figure represents the time remaining in Saturday's game with the |
