SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith injured his finger during Tuesday's padded practice, but coach Ron Rivera confirmed it's not broken and isn't anything that will keep him out of any regular season games.

Smith, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, sustained a cut near the base of his left middle finger that required stitches, but x-rays revealed no broken bones. Smith injured the finger while attempting to catch a pass in Tuesday morning's practice.

Spartanburg, SC (MySportsbook) - Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith left practice Tuesday on a cart, reportedly after injuring a finger. According to the Charlotte Observer, Smith was hurt near the end of practice during a 7-on-7 drill. "It was a little concerning," said Panthers head coach Ron Rivera. "They wanted to get an [x-ray], so we'll see. I'm not sure what happened. It obviously happened downfield somewhere. Trainers went to him immediately." Panthers DT Edwards to undergo surgery NFL Football 08/08/2011
Spartanburg, SC (MySportsbook) - Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera confirmed Monday that recently acquired defensive tackle Ron Edwards will undergo surgery and could miss significant time. Edwards, who signed a three-year, $8.25 million contract with the Panthers on July 27, suffered a torn triceps in practice this past Thursday. SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - A person familiar with the negotiations says the Carolina Panthers have agreed to a deal with free agent receiver Legedu Naanee.

Naanee played four seasons for the Chargers after getting drafted out of Boise State in 2007. He caught 63 passes for 736 yards and three touchdowns for San Diego, which declined to offer him a contract.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on Thursday on condition of anonymity because the team has not announced the agreement.

Panthers' owner spending money to improve team NFL Football 08/04/2011

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson has proven he's willing to spend money.

Richardson has been criticized the past few seasons for being tight with his money as the Panthers went from NFC division winners in 2008 to the worst record in the league (2-14) this past season. That changed once free agency began after the lockout with Richardson's Panthers locking up their own key players and bringing in free agents with big-money deals.

Newton shows off blocking skills NFL Football 08/03/2011

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - Cam Newton found a new way to wow the Carolina Panthers' fans at practice on Wednesday night.

The team's No. 1 draft choice laid a big block on cornerback R.J. Stanford on a play during contact drills, drawing applause and ``ooohs'' from those watching practice. It also drew a couple of shouts from Carolina defensive coaches. The 6-foot-5, 248-pound Newton has worn the quarterback's red jersey that keeps him free of heavy contact. Newton walked back to the huddle with his hands up a

Spartanburg, SC (MySportsbook) - Cast off by the Arizona Cardinals last week, quarterback Derek Anderson signed a contract with the Carolina Panthers on Monday.
